While in Moab I had a beautiful opportunity to get involved with The Youth Garden Project.. This a stunning example of what's possible in terms of using food production to bring community together, educate youth, and shift our ideas regarding the food we eat and where it comes from. The YGP crew were kind enough to lend me a desk so I could catch up on SFD accounting, and in exchange I volunteered cutting up tickets and painting banners for the annual Pumpkin Chuckin Festival. Me and Liz were also invited to act as judges for the Chuckers themselves, a huge honour.

I'm very interested in projects like YGP since I feel food should be at the forefront of human consciousness. Whenever people ask me what they can do to alleviate the problems of the world I reply, "Grow Food!" Every human being has a fundamental right to being fed, and as far as I'm concerned industrial agriculture is a myth that we've all bought into. The only way for us to change things is to change human consciousness, and the only way to do that is with more gardens in more places, be it urban or rural.
